TUTORIAL 1 - Using Demeter To Get An Energy Analysis Report
Many thanks for your interest in Demeter - the SketchUp Green Building Extension from Greenspace Research. Demeter is currently in beta, but we thought you'd like to get an immediate sense of how easy it is to use Demeter to get an energy analysis report from SketchUp using GreenBuildingStudio's Web service.
Welcome to our first Demeter tutorial!
PREREQUISITE: If you haven't already done so you can download the Demeter beta.
Now we're ready to begin.
1. Save the londonbuilding_california.xml somewhere convenient on your computer. This is a gbXML file (Green Building XML). Note that we're placing the London building in California for the purposes of this demo.
2. Register with GreenBuildingStudio, Inc
3. Login to GBS and Create New Project. Call it Demeter Demo. Make it an Office and select 90001 as the Location.
4. Load up SketchUp and import the gbXML file Plugins->Import gbXML. Once it loads you will need to Zoom Extents - we'll fix that soon!
5. Now open up Demeter by doing Plugins->Cube Dialog. You will find a bunch of Spaces listed. Selecting a Space highlights the space in SketchUp.
6. You could explore the building Surface Definitions at this point but for today's tutorial we want to cut to the chase and get an energy report from GreenBuildingStudio on this building.
7. Press Demeter's 'Energy Analyse' button.
8. Select GBS US as the target server and login from Demeter.
9. Press Demeter's 'Send to GBS' button.
10. You're done! A new browser window will appear informing you of GBS V3 energy analysis progress. After a few seconds you will receive a very detailed energy analysis report and access to all the excellent additional capabilities of GreenBuildingStudio V3.
